The interview process will begin at 7:30 a.m. with an informal welcome and introduction by the Department Chairman and then proceed with individual faculty interviews, as well as visiting with our cardiology department. Current residents will be available throughout the day. Lunch will be provided with faculty and current residents with a tour of the campus to follow. The day will end at approximately 2:30 p.m. Invited applicants also have the option of scheduling an alternate interview date if their schedule doesn't allow for the previously scheduled dates. The interview process begins with an informal welcome reception with the program faculty, residents and staff on Friday evening from 7 – 9 pm at the Blackwell Hotel.
Saturday morning will begin with breakfast and short presentations by our Program Director, Dr. Benjamin Sun, and Associate Program Director, Dr. Patrick Ross. This will give the applicants an overview of the program and answer any general questions they may have.
After the program introduction our current CT Fellows will escort applicants to our Saturday morning Cardiothoracic Surgery/Cardiology Conference. Interviews will start after the conference with an elective tour of the Medical Center afterwards.

Invited candidates will be given a choice of February 29th or March 1st for their interview depending on availability. Each day will begin with a continental breakfast, welcome, and orientation at 8:00 a.m. Applicants will be given a tour of the hospital. Lunch will be provided. Interviews should be complete before 5:00 p.m.
Friday evening, February 29th, a reception is held for all the applicants interviewed on either day. Spouses or significant others are also invited. The reception is attended by the Thoracic Surgery and Cardiac Surgery faculty as well as our residents.

The Friday evening before the interview date the invited applicants will meet with the Program’s faculty and current residents for a cocktail and hor d’oeurves reception at the hotel. The interview process will begin the following Saturday morning at 7:15 am in the Grymes Conference Room. An introductory overview will be presented by the Program Director, Dr. James Luketich. From 8 am – 11 am the applicants will interview with faculty. The residents will also be available to provide a tour of the facilities. There will be a luncheon with the faculty and residents following the interview session. The interview, tour and luncheon process should be completed by 2 pm.

Arrangements for your lodging will be made for you at a local hotel for the Friday night prior to the Saturday interview. Dinner that evening will be hosted by our Program Director, Dr. Richard Ohye, at his home. This casual event will allow the applicants to get to know the staff and residents in a relaxed and fun environment.
The interview day begins with short presentations about the program, followed by the interviews. At the conclusion of the interviews, there will be lunch and tours of the facilities, including the new Cardiovascular Center, by the current residents. Applicants can make afternoon flights on Saturday. Anyone electing to stay in town for the weekend should let us know, as we’d love the opportunity to show off our town either as guides or by giving suggestions on things to do.

The Thoracic Surgery Resident interview process at Mayo begins with a reception and dinner (6-9 pm) at a local hotel. Attendees include the staff surgeons and the current residents. There will be a short presentation on the history of thoracic surgery at Mayo Clinic.
Saturday includes patient rounds, continental breakfast, program overview by the Program Director, and staff interviews. Current residents will be available throughout the morning to answer questions about the training program.
At the completion of interview process, we offer an optional tour of the facilities and luncheon with the current residents.
