Requisite Curriculum Section Development Instructions
Deadline for Submission is March 31, 2002
Take a look at the sample presentation on the TSDA Web site at http://www.tsda.org/doc/3679.
Here's how to get started:
Creating Your
Presentation:
1.
Prepare
a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation of your slides. Imagine that you are giving
a 15-25 minute talk to your own residents. In addition to text, include slides
with illustrations, operative photographs, x-rays, angiograms, videos, or other
illustrative materials. You may either embed the images within your PowerPoint
presentation, or attach them as separate image files. Remember, if there are citations that must be used at the request of the copyright holder, that information must be noted/embedded either in the image or on the slide (i.e., reprinted with permission from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, Year, Vol No, pages).
2.
Record
yourself delivering the presentation. For best results, use a high-quality mini
disc digital recorder. A high quality regular cassette will also be adequate.
If you would like to borrow a mini-disc recorder for 2-3 days, contact the TSDA
Systems & Web Developer, Bill Begg, at bbegg@tsda.org, or 703.820.7400 when you
are ready to record your presentation. Recording tips:
a.
Read
the text that corresponds to a particular slide, pause and say, "next
slide," or "slide 5" and continue through the lecture.
b.
DON'T
rewind if a mistake is made, simply repeat the sentence and the audio portion
will be edited to give your presentation a seamless flow.
3.
Prepare
a transcript of your presentation. Within the transcript, put brackets around
the slide number (e.g., [slide 1]) for the corresponding text. At the end of
your presentation, you may include a few references.
Submitting
Your Presentation:
1.
Complete
the "TSDA Publication Permission
Form."
2.
To
include materials for which you do not own copyright, obtain permission and
then enclose copies of the "TSDA
Permission to Reprint Form" from each copyright holder.
3.
Create
a cover sheet which includes your current:
a.
Name,
title and specialty
b.
Institution
c.
Phone
and fax numbers
d.
Email
address
e.
Institutional
and/or department Web address (URL)
4.
Place
the PowerPoint presentation and other files on a Zip disk or CD-ROM.
5.
Mail all materials to:
