VII: CONGENITAL HEART DISEASE
G. Miscellaneous Anomalies
Unit Objective:
At the end of this unit the resident is familiar with the anatomy, physiology,
diagnosis, and operative treatment of unusual complex congenital anomalies and performs
operative and non-operative treatment.
Learner Objectives:
Upon completion of the unit the resident:
- Understands the natural history, evaluation, and treatment of coronary anomalies,
congenital complete heart block, hypoplastic left heart syndrome, pulmonary atresia
(with and without VSD), “corrected transposition”, single ventricle, cor triatriatum,
and cardiac tumors;
- Understands the role of corrective and palliative operations for the above
anomalies and of cardiac transplantation for appropriate cardiac pathology.
