UNIT VII: CONGENITAL HEART DISEASEA. Embryology, Anatomy and History At the end of the unit the resident understands the embryology of the heart and
great vessels as it relates to the development of congenital heart anomalies, the
normal anatomy of the heart, and the abnormal anatomy of the principal congenital
cardiac anomalies, and applies this knowledge to the interpretation of echocardiograms,
