C. Neoplastic Lung Disease
Unit Objective:
At the end of this unit the resident understands the natural history, types, evaluation,
and management of lung neoplasms, and performs operative and non-operative treatment.
Learner Objectives:
Upon completion of this unit the resident:
- Understands TNM staging of lung carcinoma and its application to the diagnosis,
therapeutic planning, and management of patients with lung carcinoma;
- Evaluates and diagnoses neoplasia of the lung, using a knowledge of the histologic
appearance of the major types;
- Knows the signs of inoperability;
- Understands the therapeutic options for patients with lung neoplasms;
- Understands the principles of bronchoplastic surgery;
- Understands the complications of pulmonary resection and their management;
- Understands the role of adjuvant therapy for lung neoplasms;
- Understands the indications for resection of benign lung neoplasms;
- Understands the indications for resection of pulmonary metastases.
