C. Abnormalities of the Aorta
Unit Objective:
At the end of this unit the resident understands the etiology and physiology of
diseases of the aorta and performs operative and non-operative treatment.
Learner Objectives:
Upon completion of the unit the resident:
- Understands the etiology and the physiology of aortic dissections and all
aneurysms involving the ascending, transverse, descending, and abdominal aorta;
- Recognizes the potential morbidity and mortality associated with aortic aneurysms
and develops appropriate treatment plans for their management;
- Knows the operative and nonoperative management of patients with acute and
chronic aortic dissections;
