Our next patient, operated upon in September 1998 by Dr. Duke Cameron, is a 22-year old woman who had developed a ventricular fibrillation arrest in 1993. She had had an AICD placed at that time; the AICD become infected and was replaced through a median sternotomy at an outside hospital. In September 1998, this patient sustained severe acute chest pain and was transferred to the Johns Hopkins Hospital where this spiral CT scan was obtained. It is apparent that this is a gigantic Marfan aneurysm of the ascending aorta measuring almost 13 cm in diameter.
